A Find

Today, I went on an unplanned trip of thrifting. Although I wasn’t too successful this time around, I did find something. I found a cape! At this boutique in Burbank, I found this gorgeous tan color cape. It is handmade and was bought for $15. For a cape like this, I think it was worth the money.

Classy button.

A Trip to Downtown LA

Yesterday, I ventured out to the Fashion District with a friend of mine. In particular, we explored the beads section, mainly on Maple Street. We went to a variety of shops that carried all sorts of supplies in making jewelry. We found an array of different beads, from glass to semi precious stones. We found spools of chains, suede cords, and the like. It was like a huge candy factory for jewelry and accessory crafters. At times it was a bit overwhelming, but my fascination of the endless rows of beads and all things associated with jewelry making beat out my discomfort.

I picked up extra pliers and E6000 glue. I also purchased suede cord, key charms, and feathers pictured above.

The end result was this:

Very simplistic, but I enjoy the minimalistic aspect of this piece. This necklace embodies the naturalistic style I favor. I hope to make similar pieces soon.

DoItYourself

I have decided to start do it yourself projects. I am not professionally trained, but it has always amazed me how people can make such great things on their own. I have decided to do the same. I started, actually, a few months ago while still at school. A close friend of mine had talked about finding a bead store that allows its customers to make jewelry there and also use their supplies. We went one afternoon and made some pieces.

A chained necklace with a pendant of feathers.

Long feather earrings.

I am really digging LA’s boho chic fashion and find myself dressing more towards that style. The nature inspired jewelry and other accessories worn by Los Angelenos are hip and definitely a part of my own fashion repertoire.

Stacy Sterling Jewelry’s “Catch Your Spirits Glow” Launch Party

In relation to me relaunching mode.GAPER, I had the privilege to attend Stacy Sterling Jewelry’s “Catch Your Spirits Glow” Launch Party this past Thursday in Venice, CA. The event was held at Alberto Bevacqua Studio which created an intimate atmosphere for invited guests to enjoy the party.

Designer Stacy Sterling has been designing jewelry since 2004 and her homemade pieces have adorned the likes of Hilary Duff, Brandy, and Hayden Panettiere.

“Catch Your Spirits Glow” Launch Party was held in support of Keep-A-Breast Foundation, a non-profit organization that helps eradicate breast cancer by informing youth of early detection. The party was also held in celebration of Stacy Sterling’s self-titled jewelry line. Guests were invited to view and purchase Stacy Sterling’s latest designs of her jewelry and accessories. Her designs give off a boho chic appeal, which is very much a part of the LA fashion scene today.

I felt that the event was very much a success. Her designs are timeless and knowing that each piece is homemade makes each piece that much more significant. The small space in which the event was held as stated before created an intimate atmosphere which was enjoyable to appreciate the designs and to mingle with other guests. Live installation of models adorning Stacy Sterling pieces were presented throughout the event.

Pieces that I really enjoyed were the body chains as seen on the models above. I love the designs and the splash of color to create simplistic, but beautiful design.

Celebrities were also in attendance to this event in support of Keep-A-Breast Foundation.

Sasha Pieterse, “Pretty Little Liars”

Camille Winbush, “The Secret Life of The American Teenager”

Cody Christian, “Pretty Little Liars”

Nicole Fox, Winner if “America’s Next Top Model”

Daniel Nguyen, “Tori and Dean: Home Sweet Hollywood”

Carlos Ramirez, “Napoleon Dynamite”

I had a great time and I am sure that the guests who attended were not disappointed as well!

Relaunching of mode.GAPER

It’s been almost two long years! A much longer hiatus than I had expected. I was so busy with school while in Tokyo that I could not separate enough time to focus on this blog. But, now that I have returned to Los Angeles and graduated I have a bit more time than before. I will try to post as often as I can although I will be working soon and time will once again be cut short. I hope you can be patient with me. Thank you!

Love,

KD
